I only took the first lowest-level exam,
but even though I’ve been using netapps for many years I would not have
passed on experience alone. There were questions about products/features that
my company just doesn’t use, and some ancillary questions about things
like how you request replacement parts on the website (which I actually
apparently answered incorrectly even though I’ve ordered replacement
parts that way dozens of times and never had trouble).
I didn’t pay for extensive training
though. For that one exam I did, I only went through the introductory WBTs
which if I recall were only a couple hundred dollars at most.

Subject: netapp certified expert
has anyone completed the netapp certified expert
exams? coming from a day to day administration level on filers for many years
im interested in what sort of topics they cover and if they are geared towards
the real world or more of a training course regurgitation.
in so many other vendor/system certs the exams focus on trivial and unrealistic
aspects of adminstration--for example, sun certs focusing on adding printers
and users via the gui---puhlease.
mostly im just trying to figure out if someone could reasonably take the tests
on experience alone or do i need to shell out 15K plus on all the little
courses to get the courseware and then cram that.
thanks
