It is a FAS3240 running ONTAP 8.1.3 - 7-Mode.   All DS4243 shelves in the stack.

Are those end-to-end maximums (controller to last shelf in stack)  you're listing or point-to-point (controller-to-first-shelf and/or shelf-to-shelf)?   We're in trouble if 10m is the end-to-end maximum.

I checked HWU and didnt find anything information regarding end-to-end maximums.

It depends on the controller and the OnTap version.
You can have a look in Netapp Hardware Universe.

Hello,

Does anybody know if there is a maximum end-to-end/point-to-point distance for SAS copper cables in a stack?

The Universal SAS Cabling Guide provides the following maximum distances for SAS optical but makes no mention of a maximum distance for SAS copper.

If you are using SAS optical multimode breakout cables, the following parameters apply:

• The point-to-point (QSFP-to-QSFP) path of any multimode cable cannot exceed 150 meters
for OM4 and 100 meters for OM3.

• The total end-to-end path (sum of point-to-point paths from the controller to the last shelf)
cannot exceed 510 meters.

Just wondering if there is also a maximum for SAS copper.

Thanks,
Phil
