Hmm. I just redid the test this time on my filer.

I did see 1 file difference – then I enable show operating system files and that made them both the same.  The missing file in my case was thumbs file.

Folder I used had 37133 files in it.

Other then I only thing else I can think of is the volume is question has both NFS and Cifs files in a mixed mode.

Nope- I checked that.  I had all files enabled…..the behavior you describe would be desired….

I’m sure it’s metadata related…. But it seems that the more files there are, the wider the differential between the numbers reported.

Please verify that in Windows Explorer that you are showing all files (including hidden/system etc)

I have just done a test and marked 1 file as hidden (when Tool à folder Options à Show hidden files is enable) then both match.

When I turn off showing hidden files the properties for the folder displays 1 extra file.

This could be your answer.

Note the test was done just using Windows as this is a Windows thing and the Filer will do the same.

Doesn't the folder itself count as an object? Are there also sub-folders?

Someone out there has to know this.

When I go into a folder in CIFS that only has files in it, it shows in the status bar 22 objects (files).  I count, and verify.  22 files.

I go up a folder, and right click the folder and do a ‘properties’, and it shows 23 files!  I am NOT showing ~snapshot, and it shouldn’t matter if I did.

My customer has the same problem, only the difference in his folder is 2 files (122 versus 120).

Ideas anyone?
