No problem. Have any more (SME/SD) questions? We are present and listening.

Thanks for the info. So I should be able to use NetApp Branded SD/SME with the IBM ontap and have a happy life then?

Mostly I was just taking a stab at SD. I went from 4.0 to 4.1 and it required me to install 2 hot fixes (that I'm sure were needed) which are not publicly available. I was on hold with MS when I wrote it and a bit annoyed. With all that being said SD and SME are great products and make my admin tasks a bit easier when joe user needs his email restored.

Thanks for all the replies guys..

Hi Grey & Toasters,

What you should be aware of here is that IBM branded SnapDrive or SnapManager must be upgraded with the same brand of software. For example, if you want to install IBM branded SME, you must first uninstall NetApp branded SME from the system. Furthermore, different brands of the same software cannot coexist on the same Windows host. For example, NetApp SME can not coexist with IBM SME. The same applies to SnapDrive.

That said, NetApp branded SME will work with IBM branded SnapDrive and vice versa. NetApp branded SnapDrive will work with IBM branded ONTAP and vice versa.

No, it is not just you. We think so too and actually do make some of the required hotfixes available. Keep in mind that permission to redistribute these hotfixes is at Microsoft's discretion and obtaining the permission is not necessarily an easy task. All of the hotfixes that we do have the permission to redistribute can be downloaded from the SnapDrive download page on the NOW site. To the best of my knowledge, the hotfixes that we have permission to redistribute are also included on the SnapDrive CD.

Any one using SD/SME on IBM hardware? We got a pretty good quote on a 3050 IBM Branded. Is there any weired issues if I want to move it from my 980 to this solution?

Will be SCSI disks and pretty much the same setup as the 980 except this will host only exchange and not the current setup with cifs/nfs/exchange
