To do this without downtime, you must have multipath-ha in place and functioning
(one or both of these command should help)
(storage show acp -a ; acpadmin list_all)

You can disable one path. Insert the shelf only into that path (make sure all cabling is good)
Re-enable the disabled path. It should now have an extra shelf. Let stabilize a minute or four
Disable the second path. Insert the second path of the new shelf. Check cabling and re-enable.

The only difficulty I have had is the ACP cabling not working completely after the shelf addition.

There are two ways to fix:
1. Takeover/giveback usually works. Sometimes you have to do it in both directions too.
2. Using the "acpadmin list_all" command, try and figure out which ACP modules are not registering properly.
-> remove the modules not registering, but BE SURE to only remove multiples on the SAME PATH!.
-> wait at LEAST 4 minutes. then re-insert. There is a magic timeout window in there. Must be over two minutes. 4 seems to work well.
-> re-insert the ACP modules and then wait 20 minutes and check again.

Hi all,

I have a FAS2240-2 with the following configuration:

Existing Stack:
1. DS2246 disk shelf (internal)
2. DS2246 disk shelf (external)
3. DS4243 disk shelf

I need to add a new DS2246 to this system and want to maintain the single transition between 6G and 3G so it looks like this:

Existing Stack:
1. DS2246 disk shelf (internal)
2. DS2246 disk shelf (external)
3. NEW DS2246
4. DS4243 disk shelf

Is it possible to hot-add the DS2246 into the existing stack?  The Installation Guide gives the process for adding it to the bottom of the stack, but doesn't explicitly prohibit inserting the shelf and it seems like you could with Multipath HA.

Thanks,
Aaron
