I second all that!

There will be an upcoming version that should make 2-headed clusters easier (no special back-end network).

However, As Justin mentioned, the licenses are different and there are some prepatory steps to perform.

There are a few problems with doing this yourself.

For one, it's not currently supported for customers to do this on their own. Generally you want PS to assist.

Two, the licenses are not the same. So you will need licenses from your sales team.

Three, clustered ONTAP currently requires a backend cluster network, with a switch, to operate.

I'd suggest contacting your sales team for this. They can assist you.

Subject: OnTap 8 Cluster install

Hello Toasters,

in our lab I got a FAS3070 Cluster to play around with.

So this friday afternoon I wanted to install OnTap 8.1.2 Cluster over my 7-Mode test-installtion.
Data loss is no problem.

I tried to install the cluster software over the 7-mode Version with software update several times, but on every reboot. Ontap greets me with "7-Mode".

Which point am I missing?

Thanks,

René
