11.5 Flash Pool Performance

Starting in Data ONTAP 8.1.1, MetroCluster will support Flash Pool. Flash Pool allows flash technology in

the form of SSDs to be combined with traditional hard disk drives (HDDs) in a single Data ONTAP

aggregate. When SSD and HDD technologies are combined in a Data ONTAP aggregate, the NetApp

storage system takes advantage of the latency and throughput benefits of the SSD while maintaining the

mass storage capacity of HDD.

Generally speaking, Flash Pool doesn’t behave differently when used in a MetroCluster configuration.

However, because MetroCluster requires the FibreBridge to support SAS storage, we must be cognizant

of FibreBridge limits (as stated in the previous section) that could potentially cap Flash Pool performance.

looks like it, but they do not go into much detail.  Just by guessing, I am nearly sure you would not be able to only have the hybrid cache in one plex only.    Maybe there is something in the metro cluster configuration guide as well.   I do know that the ssd cache limit only counts 1 plex.

Subject: FlashPool with SyncMiror

Hi All

Does anyone know if FlashPool is supported with SyncMirror (MetroCluster) ?

If so do I need to mirror also the SSD raid group with matching plex  ?

Or can I have one plex with hybrid and other plex without SSD ?

Is anyone seen any documentation for such a configuration  ?

Thanks
