Hi Jeremy,

we have about 100 VM running in our production environment. All VMware datastores are mounted with NFS from a FAS6070. The 8 ESX servers hardware are HP BL685c. With this we get a write througput in the VM up to 80 MBytes/sec. Backup with Filer and VMware snapshots is ease to use and restores can be done with "flexcloning" a snapshot. DR for a VM can be done as easily by copying the files out of the snapshot into the live filesystem from any NFS client.

We are very satisfied with this environment and do not feel any desire to migrate to FCP/iSCSI ....

Regards
Walter

Are any of the toaster folks using NFS for VMware in a production environment? We have about 150 VMs across 12 servers at the moment sitting on an IBM DS4500, but I just got my budget approved to buy a nice 3040 cluster. For ease of backup/restore/DR I really would like to use NFS instead of FCP/iSCSI but I don't know what the performance impact will be. Any comments/experiences?
