---------------------------------------- From: "Hilary at Sudbury Symphony Orchestra" info@sudburysymphonyorchestra.com Sent: Sunday, March 17, 2024 7:59 PM To: Subject: Sudbury Symphony Orchestra - all the details for the 24th March concert Dear all
Here are all the concert and rehearsal details for Sunday, let me know if I have missed anything out.... We have the most fantastic soloist (Michael Foyle) so if it should be a real treat of a concert and if you want to come along to the pre-concert talk he is doing (5pm in the venue gallery) then you are very welcome - its just £5 per ticket to help cover the cost of the concert. Its not so often we get an international soloist coming to Sudbury so please do take advantage of it.
To all our guest players - if you can confirm receipt of this email that would be good.
Thursday 21 March rehearsal This will be at Woodhall County Primary School as normal at 7:30 pm. For those kind people taking timps to Sudbury Arts Centre on Sunday you might want to collect them after the Thursday rehearsal.
Sunday 24 March rehearsal Is at Sudbury Arts Centre at St Peter's, Market Hill, Sudbury CO10 2EA , we start playing at 1 pm and we aim to finish by 4 pm. We are booked into the venue from 12 and in theory we do not neet to set up for the concert apart from the staging so if people can come from 12:30 onwards that would be appreciated and in any event can you arrive by 12:45 to get settled etc. Weatherwise the current forecast is that it will be cloudy with sunny intervals, probably dry, and about 10 degress C so cool rather than warm. The church heating will be on but you might want to bring an extra jumper just in case.
Music stand - please bring one.
Rehearsal order: 1pm Mendelssohn Ruy Blas Overture; 1.20 pm Dvorak Symphony No. 5; 3ish Bruch Violin Concerto (trombones not needed in the Bruch) ; 4pm Finish
Parking: on Market Hill, North Street parking or by the Station (a bit of walk) You might also be able to park on the road near the church if you are lucky.
Refreshments: the venue will provide tea, coffee, biscuits and water during the rehearsal break. We have agreed to pay for this round of drinks, if you would like additional teas and coffees then you may be asked to pay for them. But top ups of water throughout the rehearsal will be free. If you do so happen to bring in a flask full of rather hot and oddly coloured water and are discreet then I am pretty sure there won't be an issue - but no guarantees. There will be a pay bar open from 4:45 onwards.
After the rehearsal - we have a 5 pm Meet the Soloist event in the gallery which finishes at 5:30 so we need to clear all our stuff out of the event space and into the altar area of the venue at the end of the rehearsal. The concert starts at 6 pm (finishing by about 7:45 pm), if you are not going home between the rehearsal and the concert and were hoping to eat in the venue then you need to be aware that we are not permitted to bring food into Sudbury Arts Centre which currently does not serve food unless you give them a weeks notice. It is not entirely clear how the no food policy will be policed and when asked if a blind eye would be turned to a few people eating in (as it were) then we got the nod. So if you are discreet and prepared to risk it - well we would understand. There are in any event plenty of cafes and restaurants that will be open very close to the Arts Centre.
Sunday 24 March concert In Sudbury Arts Centre starting at 6 pm so please be back in the church by 5:45 at the latest.
Concert dress: all black for ladies and black tie, white shirt and dinner jacket for gentlemen.
In theory we should not need to clear up after the concert but I need to confirm that with the venue.
Would be great to get people's feedback on the venue after the concert. Disregarding the cost and the bureaucracy surrounding the venue I suspect people will love it but we do want to know.
Next term Starts on Thursday 11 April, concert on Sunday 30 June in St Gregory's followed by our summer party in the Church. We plan to play Larsson's Pastoral Suite, Mozart Flute Concerto (Mary Blanchard soloist) and Schubert 6.
Anything I have missed out?
All best
Hilary
